Medical department observes ‘World No Tobacco day’ in Karimnagar and Jagtial districts

KARIMNAGAR, MAY 31, 2024: The Karimnagar District Medical and Health department organised a rally on ‘International Day against Tobacco’ in Karimnagar town on Friday.

District medical and health officer Dr G Sujatha flagged off the rally from the DMHO office in Karimnagar town. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sujatha said that the tobacco products such as cigarettes, beedis, pan masala, zarda, gutka and thambaku etc is not only harmful to those who consume it but also pollutes the environment. She said that the tobacco directly affects our mouth and the sensitive part of our body, the lungs. She urged everyone to pledge to work against tobacco throughout their lives.

District TB officer Dr KV Ravinder Reddy, POM Dr Sana Javeria, Fluorosis consultant Dr Shilpa, Drn RL Kantha Raom and others were also present.

In Jagtial district, the Deputy  DMHO Dr N Srinivas participated in an awareness educating the people to say no to tobacco products as part of World no-tobacco day’ at UPSC Mothewada in Jagtial town on Friday.

Participating the rally, Dr Srinivas said that “Tobacco is killing us and our planet; it is a threat to our environment’. The pledge-taking ceremony was organised as per the guidelines received from the Ministry of Education. The fact that tobacco kills several millions of people every year and destroys the environment by harming human health through its cultivation, production, distribution, consumption and post-consumer waste”, Programme Officer Dr Samiuddinm Medical officers Dr Swamy, Dr Swathi, Dr Santosh, ANMs, ASHA workers , supervisors and others participated\.
