KARIMNAGAR, AUGUST 19, 2026: Stating that the Central Government has sanctioned ₹840 crore under the Urban Challenge Fund (UCF) to transform Karimnagar and make the city a role model for development in the state, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has decided to use these funds for the overall development of the city.
As part of this, Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar held a review meeting with Mayor Kolagani Srinivas, Deputy Mayor Sunil Rao, Municipal Commissioner Prapul Desai, SE Sampath Rao, DE Devender Reddy and other officials at the R&B guest house in Karimnagar town on Wednesday. The meeting discussed the proposals prepared for the UCF works.
During the meeting, the officials presented the proposals to the Union Minister. They said that proposals have been prepared to construct more than 40 model roads covering around 50 km in Karimnagar at a cost of ₹630 crore. Along with this, designs have been prepared to construct foot-over bridges near the District Court, Civil Hospital and Geetha Bhavan, and a skywalk near Karimnagar Bus Station, similar to the one at Uppal in Hyderabad. They also said that the traffic junctions in the city will be identified and developed attractively. In addition, 130 electric vehicles will be purchased and made available.
As people are facing problems due to water accumulating on roads even after small amount of rainfall in some parts of the city, the Minister asked about the proposals prepared to solve this problem. Officials presented proposals to construct and develop 80 km of storm-water drains across the city to carry away rainwater.
The Union Minister also asked for details of the proposals prepared for a permanent solution to the dumping yard problem, which has become a major issue in Karimnagar. As part of the UCF funds, officials said that proposals have been prepared for a Solid Waste Management project worth ₹80 crore to find a permanent solution to the dumping yard problem. They said that proposals have been prepared and sent to the Central Government to set up an “Integrated Solid Waste Management Project – Transfer Station and Processing Unit” to collect the waste generated in the city, separate it at the processing centre, recycle it and dispose of it scientifically.
Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar expressed satisfaction with the proposals and spoke over the phone with Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, State Municipal Department Principal Secretary Sridevi and ENC officials. He requested them to approve the UCF proposals on a priority basis and issue technical sanctions. He instructed the Karimnagar Municipal Commissioner to complete the tender process immediately after the proposals are approved and start the development works using UCF funds. Bandi Sanjay said that UCF funds will completely transform Karimnagar. He asked the officials to take steps to develop Karimnagar as a role model for development in the Telugu states.
Earlier, along with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, he laid the foundation stone for road, drainage and water pipeline development works at Pochammawada in Ward No. 39, Kothirampur.
