HYDERABAD, JULY 07, 2026: Joint Enforcement Drive by the Prohibition & Excise Department and the Drugs Control Administration Detects Unauthorised Possession, Stocking, and Sale of Psychotropic Substance N-Benzylpiperazine (BZP) and Seizes Stocks Worth ₹1.58 Crore.
As part of the Special Joint Enforcement Drive conducted by the Prohibition & Excise Department and the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, on 07-07-2026, unauthorized possession, stocking and sale of the psychotropic substance N-Benzylpiperazine (Benzylpiperazine/BZP) was detected at Hyma Synthesis Pvt. Ltd., IDA Nacharam, Medchal–Malkajgiri District, Telangana.
During the inspection, the joint team detected unauthorized possession and stocking of N-Benzylpiperazine (BZP), a psychotropic substance notified under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act) and included in Schedule I of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Rules, 1985.
The inspection further revealed that the firm had failed to maintain statutory records relating to the acquisition, possession and utilization of the psychotropic substance in Form 7 as prescribed under Rule 67A of Chapter VII-A of the NDPS Rules, 1985, constituting violations of the provisions of the Act and the Rules.
Benzylpiperazine (BZP) is a synthetic stimulant and designer drug that produces effects similar to MDMA. It is known for its stimulant and euphoriant properties and is liable to be misused as a recreational drug. Being a psychotropic substance regulated under the NDPS Act, its unauthorized manufacture, possession, purchase, sale, transport or use is a punishable offence under the provisions of the Act.
During the raid, 5.850 kilograms of N-Benzylpiperazine (BZP), having an estimated illicit market value of approximately ₹1.58 crore, was seized. Based on the violations detected during the inspection, the Prohibition & Excise Department has registered a case under Section 8(c) read with Section 22(c) of the NDPS Act, 1985 against the firm. Further investigation shall be conducted, and appropriate action shall be taken against all offenders involved.

Indira Priyadarshini, Drugs Inspector, Drugs Control Administration, Telangana; and Sri K. Anvesh, Drugs Inspector, Drugs Control Administration, Telangana.
The Prohibition & Excise Department and the Drugs Control Administration have reiterated that stringent enforcement action will continue against the illegal possession, stocking, sale, and illegal diversion of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances to safeguard public health and curb drug abuse, according to DCA Director General Avinash Mohanty, in a statement here on Tuesday.
