Hyderabad, January 16 2026: Hyderabad is set to host the 57th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle this Sunday, with the city preparing for a unique blend of fitness, mindfulness and community participation. Adding a distinctive spiritual and wellness dimension to this week’s edition, the Heartfulness Institute, whose international headquarters is located at the serene Kanha Shanti Vanam campus near Chegur village in Ranga Reddy district, is associated with the event in Hyderabad.
Started by Hon’ble Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya in December 2024, Fit India Sundays on Cycle has become a ‘jan andolan’, promoting fitness, clean environment and sustainability, with the movement seeing more than 22 lakh participation over 2 lakh locations nationwide.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has time and again mentioned the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program. He has said that through this movement, India is learning to balance health with routine, activity with discipline, and personal well-being with national well-being. The campaign addresses two important issues of #FightObesity and #PollutionKaSolution, giving citizens an easy, fun way of staying fit while reducing carbon footprints.
The special 57th edition of the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative will see the presence of former Indian badminton player and renowned figure Pullela Gopichand, alongside Deepthi Jeevanji, Arjuna Awardee (2025), Paris 2024 Paralympic bronze medallist and world record holder, as well as other athletes.
Adding further star power will be sprinter V. Hima Teja, a double Asian relay medallist at the Asian Junior and Asian U20 Championships; middle-distance runner Salla Mahesh, who finished fifth in the 2000m steeplechase at the Asian Youth Championships; and endurance specialist Mohit Chaudhary, a South Asian Championships silver medallist who has also represented India at the World University Games. They will be joined by M. Venkatrama Reddy, a South Asian Championships bronze medallist in the 800m and a World Junior Championships participant, Yeshwitha Potanapalli, who competed in high jump at the Asian Youth Games, and M. Uma, a participant at the AU ISBAM World Championship.
Their presence adds competitive energy and inspiration to the cycling movement, reinforcing the message that fitness, discipline and active living are common foundations for both sporting excellence and everyday life. Fit India Champions and Ambassadors will also join citizens on the cycling route, motivating participants across age groups. Along with cycling, activities such as yoga, Zumba, tug-of-war, rope skipping, and other fitness activities will also be taking place in parallel.
FIT India Movement was launched on 29th August, 2019, by the Prime Minister with a view to making fitness an integral part of our daily lives. The mission of the Movement is to bring about behavioural changes and move towards a more physically active lifestyle.
