NEW DELHI, JANUARY 12, 2026: Guided by the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his call of “Sahkar se Samriddhi”, the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India, organised a two-day National-Level Workshop and Review Meeting on Strengthening the Cooperative Sector at Udaipur, Rajasthan, on 8–9 January 2026. The workshop marked a significant step towards positioning cooperatives as a central pillar of inclusive growth, rural prosperity, and grassroots economic empowerment.
Held under the dynamic leadership of Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation Amit Shah, the workshop brought together senior officials from States and Union Territories, including Secretaries and Registrars of Cooperative Societies, to review progress and chart future strategies. The deliberations focused on strengthening Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), cooperative banking reforms, digital transformation, and the creation of a robust National Cooperative Database.
Key discussions highlighted the computerisation of PACS and cooperative institutions, the expansion of multipurpose cooperatives, the world’s largest grain storage initiative, the integration of additional services through PACS, and the promotion of national-level cooperative enterprises. Emphasis was laid on improving governance, easing regulatory frameworks, fostering consensus-based leadership, and leveraging technology to enhance transparency and efficiency.
The workshop also underscored the importance of capacity building and leadership development through premier institutions, with a special focus on empowering women, youth, and marginalised communities. States shared best practices and innovative models, reinforcing cooperative federalism and Centre–State collaboration.
The National-Level Workshop reaffirmed the Ministry of Cooperation’s commitment to revitalising the cooperative movement and making cooperatives future-ready, competitive, and people-centric—firmly aligning them with India’s long-term vision of sustainable and inclusive development.
