KARIMNAGAR, JULY 23, 2024: In a shocking incident, a school student drowned in a village tank when he went to attend nature call as he did not use the toilets in the Zilla Parishad High School, Mogilipalem village of Thimmapur mandal on Monday.
Police sources said that a sixth class Juvvaji Saikrishna (12) son of Murali went to school. Later, he returned home for lunch in spite of school serving midday meals. He returned back to school after lunch, later he went to attend nature call along with two other friends at the shores of village tank. Following the rains, the village tank received copious inflows and he accidentally slipped into the waters and drowned. Local villagers alleged that the students were forced to go outside to attend nature calls as the toilets were not a usable condition due to poor sanitation in the school.
Even during the parents meeting held on Saturday, they informed the teachers not to send the children out of the school as they found majority of them attending nature calls in the open and near village tank. It is also alleged that the headmaster of the school was not present in the school and abstained without informing the authorities concerned and there was no movement.
Villagers were finding fault with the school authorities for allowing the children to go home during the lunch time instead of serving midday meals being provided by the government. They also flayed the school authorities for allowing the children to go out during the school hours as there was no supervision about their movement.
