Salar Jung Museum and SPIC MACAY Organised Two-Day Classical Music Festival as Part of Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

HYDERABAD, JUNE 24, 2026:  As part of the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of Salar Jung Museum, the Museum, in collaboration with SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth), organised two memorable evenings of Indian classical music on 20th and 21st June 2026.

The celebrations commenced on 20th June with a captivating Veena recital by renowned veena maestro and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee, Vidwan D. Srinivas, who mesmerized the audience with his soulful performance and exceptional artistry.

On 21st June, the audience was treated to a spellbinding Hindustani vocal concert by Padma Shri Vidhushi Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, whose masterful rendition of ragas left music lovers enthralled.

SPIC MACAY, a 49-year-old nationwide movement dedicated to promoting Indian classical music, culture, and heritage among youth, played a pivotal role in organizing the two-day event. Working closely with the Department of Culture and officials of Salar Jung Museum, SPIC MACAY coordinated every aspect of the concerts, from inviting the distinguished artists to facilitating audience participation.

As part of its outreach initiative, SPIC MACAY, with the support of the Director of School Education, Dr. Naveen Nicolas, and his team, brought approximately 250 students and teachers from KGBV Kandukur and KGBV Ramachandrapuram schools to attend the concerts and visit the museum. The initiative aimed to provide students from remote villages of Telangana, who often have limited access to such opportunities, with exposure to India’s rich cultural heritage and classical music traditions.

The students expressed immense joy and gratitude for the opportunity to witness performances by some of the country’s most celebrated artists and to explore the magnificent collections and artifacts housed at Salar Jung Museum.

Encouraged by the overwhelming response, SPIC MACAY and Salar Jung Museum are exploring plans to organize a monthly heritage and classical music programme, enabling students from more government schools across Telangana to experience the richness of India’s cultural legacy.

The two-day event successfully highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting India’s artistic traditions while inspiring young minds to connect with the nation’s cultural heritage.
