KARIMNAGAR, JULY 22, 2026: Even as the country is celebrating the National Flag Adoption Day on Wednesday, marking the historic occasion when the tricolour was officially adopted as the national flag of India on July 22, 1947. This significant day serves as a reminder of our shared heritage, and it continues to inspire unity, patriotism, and pride among citizens across the nation.
However, the tall monumental flag-post, stated to be Telangana state’s second-tallest flag post measuring 150 feet, frequently remains bare for weeks due to delayed maintenance, torn flags or damaged mechanical ropes
Despite Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar (MCK) spending a whopping Rs 76 lakhs for the installation of the flag-post in February 2019, the monumental flagpole has frequently sat empty without tricolour for long stretches. The MCK often fail to replace weather-damaged or wind-torn flags promptly, leaving major civic structures bare even on symbolic patriotic anniversaries.
Even on the National Flag Adoption Day, the MCK had failed to hoist the tri-colour on the monumental flag post or celebrate the occasion. The Lions Club and senior citizen B Madhusudhan Reddy, who had participated in the National Flag Adoption Day rally in Karimnagar town on Wednesday, said that they had planned to conduct celebrations at the monumental flag-pole.
But they had deferred the idea as the flag-post remained bare without tricolour fluttering on the pole. He ridiculed the MCK and other officials for remaining silent and not replacing the flag post with a new national flag to commemorate the National Flag Adoption Day.
