RAJANNA-SIRCILLA, JULY 13, 2026:Â The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree College for Women (TGSWRDC-W), Sircilla, organised National Deworming Day to create awareness among students about intestinal worm infections, personal hygiene, sanitation, and the importance of regular deworming.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of the Principal, P. S. R. Sharma. Addressing the students, the Principal emphasised that maintaining personal hygiene, using safe drinking water, practising proper sanitation, and taking deworming tablets at regular intervals are essential for good health, improved nutrition, and better academic performance. He urged the students to adopt healthy hygiene practices and spread awareness among their families and communities.
The deworming programme aims to deworm all children in the age group of one year to 19 years from the prevalence of soil-transmitted helminths (STH). The theme of National Deworming Day —Eliminate STH: Invest in a healthier future for children — is appropriate as parasitic worm infections can hinder a child’s physical and cognitive development, which is detrimental to their overall health and educational outcomes.
As part of the programme, deworming tablets were distributed to the students under aegis of the National Service Scheme (NSS) with the support of the Health Department. The programme also included an awareness session highlighting the causes, symptoms, prevention, and treatment of intestinal worm infections.
Vice Principal K. Lavanya, NSS Programme Officer V. Swapna, NSS team members R. Deepthi, G. Swapna, and S. Sandhya Rani, Health Supervisor P. Sumalatha, faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students actively participated in the programme, making it a successful and informative initiative.
