NEW DELHI, JULY 06, 2026:Â Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah today said that the cooperative movement is entering a new phase of expansion through reforms, digitisation, and professional management. Addressing the 5th foundation ceremony of the Ministry of Cooperation, Mr Shah said that a ranking framework has been announced to recognise the five best-performing cooperative societies in every region.
Home Minister said that efforts are also underway to strengthen Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) by expanding their range of activities through model byelaws adopted by states. He also appealed to farmers to increase the production of organic agricultural products and reduce the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides.
Mr Shah lauded the Ministry of Cooperation for bringing change in the lives of millions of people by following the mantra of Prosperity through Cooperation for the past 5 years. He said that today is a very auspicious day for 30 crore people associated with the cooperative sector and more than 8 lakh 50 thousand cooperative institutions across the country. He said that on this day Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to establish an independent Ministry of Cooperation in the government.

Mr Shah further said that in the last 5 years, commendable work in the direction of making the cooperative system modern, transparent, technology-enabled, and competitive was undertaken. He said that this year, the government launched a ranking framework for cooperative institutions. He said that through this, the top five cooperative societies excelling in each sector will be identified, granted rankings, and their outstanding work will be highlighted to serve as an inspiration for other institutions.
The Home Minister has underlined that the National Cooperative Committee established in the field of seed production will emerge as India’s largest non-governmental seed production organisation in the coming three years. He added that through this, work is being carried out on three objectives, including providing farmers with pure and adulteration-free seeds, development and distribution of advanced seed varieties that yield higher production, and conservation of Indian traditional seeds.
Mr Shah said that trained professionals in banking, dairy, marketing, agriculture, fertilisers, and other areas of cooperation will be prepared from Tribhuvan Cooperative University. These professionals will be appointed based on merit. The Home Minister said that the Government’s goal is to implement professional management in a phased manner from primary cooperative societies to top institutions. He added that this will increase transparency in appointments, improve work efficiency, and also put an effective check on corruption related to appointments.
Remembering Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee on his 125th birth anniversary, Mr Shah said that Dr Mookerjee dedicated his entire life to instilling a sense of Indianness, reverence for Bharat Mata, and the importance of Indian culture in crores of party workers like me. He added that Dr Mookerjee was the great leader who declared that one nation cannot have two Constitutions, two Prime Ministers, and two flags.
