TIRUMALA, JULY 26, 2026: The annual celestial Umbrella festival, Chatra Sthapana Utsavam, was celebrated on Sunday at the foothills of Narayanagiri in Tirumala.
A team of religious staff from Tirumala temple consecrated and installed a specially decorated umbrella near Srivari Padalu.
A procession carrying puja items, flowers, naivedyam and the ceremonial umbrella proceeded through the temple mada streets to Medaramitta, then moved to Narayanagiri.
After Tirumanjanam (ceremonial cleansing)Â at Srivari Padalu, the deity was adorned and naivedyam was offered.
Vedic recitations were held, and prasadam was distributed to devotees.
According to the Puranas, Narayanagiri — one of Tirumala’s seven hills — is the peak where Sri Venkateswara Swamy first set His foot in the Kali Yuga.
The Chhatra Sthapana is observed on the day of Dwadashi. There is also a traditional belief that, since the hilltop is windy during this season, an umbrella is installed as an offering seeking relief from the winds and blessings from the deity Vayu.
