CPI demands Union government to declare recent rains and floods in Telangana state as national calamity

KARIMNAGAR, SEPTEMBER 12, 2024: The CPI district unit members have staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate in Karimnagar town on Thursday demanding the Union government to declare recent rains and floods as national calamity and provide assistance to the farming community.

Activists led by CPI district secretary Marri Venkat Swamy, the CPI district unit leaders staged a dharna. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Venkat Swamy said that the rains followed by floods had extensive damage to the farm sector with the inundation of crops, formation of sand dunes in the fields, breaching of minor irrigation tanks and damages to roads and culverts. Standing crops such as maize, paddy, cotton, chillies and other vegetable crops were damaged in the rains.

Later, a delegation met Collector Pamela Satpathy and submitted a memorandum.
