Cancellation of Rahul Gandhi meeting in Karimnagar dented the victory of Congress from Karimnagar parliament: Ponnam Prabhakar

KARIMNAGAR, JUNE 04, 2024:  Minister for Transport and BC Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar said that the cancellation of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s election meeting in Karimnagar town following rains and gales has dented into the victory of Congress candidate Velichala Rajender Rao in Karimnagar parliament constituency elections.

However, Mr Rajender Rao secured 3.54 lakh votes under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, he said and added that the Congress rank and file worked very hard for the victory of Rajender Rao from Karimnagar parliament constituency. He said that the exit polls predictions have gone wrong and INDIA block alliance had secured highest seats in the elections. The highest seats for INDIA block candidates have showed that the people respect democracy and Constitution in the country, he added.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday evening, Mr Prabhakar appealed to BJP candidate Bandi Sanjay Kumar, who has been elected from the Karimnagar parliament constituency for the second term, to keep aside provocation on the lines of religion and focus on resolving the public issues. He demanded the BJP candidate to disclose what he would do for the constituency which had elected him for the second term.

Stating that they would strengthen the party from the grass-root level and capture in the Karimnagar parliament constituency in the next elections, he also said that the Congress would chalk out special plans to win majority of local bodies in the coming elections.  He also said that the Karimnagar district was got rid of non-local and BRS candidate B Vinod Kumar following his defeat.

Government Whip Adi Srinivas and Manakondur legislator and DCC president Kavvampalli Satyanarayana said that Bandi Sanjay Kumar had won the elections on sympathy factor of losing the Assembly elections in 2023. Expressing regrets for not giving good majority in their assembly segments of Vemulawada and Manakondur to the Congress candidate, they stated that they would correct their mistakes and strived for strengthening of party and work for the people.

Congress contestant V Rajender Rao said that the delay in announcement of his candidature from the Karimnagar parliament constituency has proved dearly as he would not campaign effectively in 15 days time. On the other hand, the BJP candidate was ahead in electioneering for the last one year and the construction of Ram mandir in Ayodhya and distribution of ‘akshinthalu’ to each household and Hindutva card had help the BJP win the elections. Congress leaders Purumalla Srinivas, Pranav Babu, Arepalli Mohan, K Satyanarayana Goud, K Narender Reddy, A Bhaskar Reddy, Bomma Sriram Chakravarthy, Padmakar Reddy, Md Taj, B Sravan Naik, Padala Rahul and others were also present.
