SP warns of registering criminal cases against persons indulging in road blockades and cause traffic snarls

RAJANNA-SIRCILLA, JUNE 04, 2024:  Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan has warned the people of registering criminal cases against them for staging rasta rokos (road blockades) and causing law and order and traffic snarls in the district.

If the people have any problem, they should not take law into their laws, instead they should approach the authorities for redressal of their grievances, he suggested and instructed the people from staging rasta rokos and cause traffic snarls and inconvenience to the road users.

In an official release here on Tuesday, the SP said that on Monday the villagers of Gorantla in Yellareddypet mandal have staged a rasto roko in protest against the accidental death of Gollapalli Yellaiah demanding compensation from the person, who caused accident. The villagers squatted in front of the RTC bus stand and obstructed the traffic movement. In spite of police officials’ plea, the villagers staged the dharna on the road. The police registered cases against Kumarishetty Mahender, Mende Suman, Aliveli Murali, Shanigarapur Muthaiah, Aliveli Laxmaiah and D Murali.

Similarly, the villagers had attacked the house of Sathish in Goliya Naik thanda alleging that he was responsible for the suicide of Mamatha in Babai Cheruvu thanda in Veernapalli mandal. The villagers staged a road blockade causing inconvenience to the road users. The police have registered cases against 10 persons attacking the house of Satish and five persons for staging road blockade.

In different incidents of road blockades by the people in the district, the police had registered cases against 52 persons in nine cases. The SP informed the people to desist from staging dharnas and rasta rokos on the roads causing nuisance and traffic snarls. He appealed to the people to lodge any complaints with the police for redressal instead of taking law into their hands.
