KARIMNAGAR, DECEMBER 12, 2024: Students of the Department of Zoology of SRR Government Arts and Science College, Karimnagar town, had an enriching field visit that brought their textbook learning to life and provided them with practical knowledge on entomology and vermiculture at Professor Jayashankar Agricultural University in Jagtial district on Wednesday.
As part of Cocurricular activity, the SRR students visited the Department of Entomology and Vermi culture and observed types of insects and the types of larvae stages of insects which are harmful to the plants and types of butterflies. At the vermiculture department, students learnt about the culturing of the earthworms, the preparation of the vermibeds for the vermiculture also the preparation and packing of the vermicompost.
These young learners immersed themselves in the fascinating world of agriculture. From witnessing the art of seed sowing to gaining insights into crop harvesting techniques, every step of the farming process came alive before their eyes. The farm visit was much more than a field trip. It was an opportunity for the students to understand the foundations of sustainable agricultural practices and witness the dedication and hard work of farmers. They learnt about soil preparation, fertilisation methods, and pest management. They even participated in activities such as weeding and irrigation. It was a day filled with practical learning, questions, and a deep appreciation for the hard work and dedication involved in bringing food to our table.
HOD of zoology department Jyothi Lakshmi, Associate Professors Kiranmai, Kadaru Surendra Reddy, Ravinder Rao , Dr. Kalpana and Samantha participated in the field trip. Principal of the SRR college K Ramakrishna appreciated the Department of zoology and fisheries.
