PEDDAPALLI, JULY 27, 2024: With steady inflows into the Sripada Yellampalli Project (SYP) following the incessant rains, the Irrigation authorities are gearing up its machinery to open the flood gates of the project to release the surplus waters into the river Godavari.
On Saturday afternoon, the SYP was having a storage capacity of 17.2202 tmcs of water against its full capacity of 20.175 tmcs. The project was receiving inflows of 13,659 cusecs from its catchment and the outflow was 6,631 cusecs including 6,300 cusecs to Gayathri pump house and 331 cusecs to the Hyderabad metro works board.
Following the continuous rainfall in the region and catchment areas of the project, the authorities are expecting heavy inflows into the project. They have sounded alert and taking all measures to release surplus waters downstream into the river Godavari.
Following the heavy inflows into SYP, the Irrigation authorities have started lifting the waters by switching-on two pumps at Nandi Medaram pump house to lift 6,300 cusecs of water to Gayathri pump house and from there to Mid Manair Dam. By evening, the authorities would operate three more motors to lift water to the Gayathri pump house and to MMD.
