Collect rock and water samples for laboratory tests
HYDERABAD, APRIL 18, 2024: Officials of the Geological Survey of India (GSI), Southern region, Hyderabad visited the Maddikunta village in Ramareddy mandal of Kamareddy district to study the reported incidences of cancer and possible geogenic causes in the village on Thursday.
Following reports in a section of media about the high incidence of cancer among the villagers mostly womenfolk, the GSI officials visited the Maddikunta village at the instructions of Director General of GSI, Hyderabad.
Officials team led by K. V. Maruti, Dy. Director General, Sangram Nayak, Director and Ramesh Gunda, Senior Geologist, visited the village. They studied the local geology and topography and rock and water samples were collected for laboratory analysis for ascertaining the possible geogenic (contamination of water) causes resulting cancers. The officials also interacted with the local villagers and officials of Telangana State Ground Water Department and Director Mines and Geology, Telangana.
