DCA officials seized overprice drugs in Khammam, conducts raids on unlicenced medical shop in Narayanpet

HYDERABAD, FEBRUARY 07, 2024:  Officials of the Telangana Drugs Control Administration seized overpriced anti-fungal drug ‘GRISOLAB-250’ Griseofulvin Tablets 250 mg at Kothagudem – MRP indicated is very high compared to the Ceiling Price fixed for the product by the Central Government.

In another case, the DCA officials raided a medical shop at Jaklair Village, Makthal Mandal, Narayanpet District which is running illegally without a drug licence and seized huge stocks of medicines worth Rs. 1.20 lakhs.

DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that the DCA officials seized ‘GRISOLAB-250’ Griseofulvin Tablets 250 mg on 06th February, 2024 at Kothagudem. The product Griseofulvin Tablets 250 mg sold under brand name ‘GRISOLAB-250’  is under price control as per Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 and the price of product shall be in accordance with the ‘Ceiling Price’ fixed by National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), Government of India.

The product ‘GRISOLAB-250’ Griseofulvin Tablets 250 mg of  B.No : GGST-007, Mfg Dt: 04/2023 Exp Dt: 03/2026, Manufactured by: Laborate Pharmaceuticals India Ltd., 51, Industrial Area, Paonta Sahib, Himachal Pradesh. Marketed by: Gpp Axalade, Salwan, Haryana bears MRP as Rs. 65/- for 10 tablets on the label of the product, which is a violation of Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013.

The Ceiling price fixed by the Central Government for the product “Griseofulvin Tablets 250 mg” is Rs 17.7 for 10 tablets (Ceiling Price). Hence Maximum Retail Price (MRP) i.e. including GST 12 % should not be more than Rs. 19.83 for 10 tablets (MRP=Ceiling Price+GST)

The firm overpriced the product. A strip of 10 tablets has been charged excess of Rs. 45.17 per 10 tablets, which is a violation of Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013.

The stocks worth of Rs. 4,095 was seized.  G. Prasad, Assistant Director, Khammam and  Ch. Sampath Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Bhadradri Kothagudem are among the officers who carried out the raid. Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders.

Unlicenced medical shop raided

The DCA officials, on credible information, raided a shop by name M/s. Amaan Medical and General stores, located at Jaklair Village, Makthal Mandal, Narayanpet District on 06th February, 2024.  M Abdul Rasheed is running a medical shop at the said premises illegally without a drug licence.

During the raid, DCA officers detected unauthorized stocking of huge quantity of medicines for sale. 33 varieties of medicines including antibiotic injections, IV fluids, analgesics, antihypertensive drugs, anti-ulcer drugs, cough syrups etc. are found stocked for sale at the premises.  DCA officials seized the stock of total worth Rs. 1.20 lakhs during the raid.
