HYDERABAD, MARCH 28, 2024: In a series of raids conducted in various parts of Telangana state, the Drugs Control Administration officials have seized various Ayurvedic medicines for misleading advertisements claiming to treat various ailments.
In a statement here on Thursday, DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that the officials detected an ayurvedic medicine ‘StonFyt Liquid,’ circulating in the market with misleading claim on its label that it treats ‘Kidney Stones’, which is a contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. During the special raids conducted on March 27th and 28th, officials from the Drugs Control Administration, Warangal Zone seized the stocks. Dr G Rajyalakshmi, Assistant Director, Warangal and A. Balakrishna, Drugs Inspector, Jangaon carried out the raid.
At Puppalaguda, Gandipet, the officials seized ayurvedic medicine ‘PANION Tablets,’ circulating in the market with misleading claim on its label that it treats ‘Rheumatism’. D. Swetha Bindu, Drugs Inspector, Gandipet carried out the raid under the supervision of K. Anil Kumar, Assistant Director, Serilingampally.
In Sircilla textile town, the officials seized an ayurvedic medicine ‘SAPTAMRIT LAUH Tablets,’ circulating in the market with misleading claim on its label that it treats ‘Eye Diseases’. The advertisement of a medicine for the treatment of ‘Diseases and disorders of the optical system’ is prohibited under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. S. Vinay Sushmi, Drugs Inspector, Siricilla carried out the raid under the supervision of Dr J. Raju, Assistant Director, Siddipet. Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders.
Persons who make misleading advertisements regarding drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders are punishable under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, with imprisonment which may extend to six months, or with fine, or with both.
