KARIMNAGAR, JANUARY 15, 2025: The Housing board colony in Karimnagar town is going to emerge as the first locality in the Telangana state to secure water 24×7 under the Smart City Mission programme from January 24, 2025 onwards.
Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of State for Home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Minister for IT and Industries Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Minister for Transport and BC Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar, Karimnagar legislator Gangula Kamalakar would participate in the inauguration of several schemes taken up under Smart City Mission programme in Karimnagar town.
Under the Smart City programme, the MCK had converted the open places of the Government Old High School grounds including Circus grounds and Multipurpose school grounds into the parks, Sports commercial complex at Ambedkar stadium, e-classrooms in various government schools and 24×7 water supply on a pilot basis at Housing board colony.
Incidentally, the 24×7 water supply to the people of Karimnagar town is a long-cherished dream promised by Karimnagar legislator Gangula Kamalakar in the 2009 elections. According to the legislator conducted a trial run of providing round the clock water under the Jyothinagar reservoir limits of MCK by fixing meters. However, it failed to materialize due to various reasons.
Later, the authorities had conducted surveys to ensure 24×7 water supply in Housing board colony, Kothirampur and Bhagathnagar reservoir limits, but it also failed. Finally, the MCK had zeroed on the Housing board colony which would be formally launched on January 24.
Contrary to the claims made by the MCK to protect the heritage Old High school building, which is stated to be the first school of Karimnagar district constructed by Nizam rulers, the Smart City executing agency had not made any arrangement for the protection of heritage structure by providing illuminations or any visual impact for the road users. The authorities had removed the school and junior college buildings from the premises, but they did not remove the commercial shopping complex in front of the heritage structure, which had turned eye soar for the people of the town. Ironically, the authorities are making all arrangements for reopening the commercial shutters on the heritage structure premises.
As part of the massive inauguration of various development works in Karimnagar town, Mayor Y Sunil Rao, Municipal Commissioner Chahat Bajpai, DE Om Prakash, local municipal corporator Akula Padma Prakash and others inspected the arrangements for the launching of 24×7 water supply and public meeting on January 24 at Housing board colony.
