Twenty flood gates of Sripada Yellampalli project lifted to release over 1.22 lakh cusecs of water into river Godavari

PEDDAPALLI, SEPTEMBER 01, 2024:  The Irrigation authorities have lifted the flood gates of the Sripada Yellampalli project to release the surplus inflows into the project from Sunday morning onwards.

Initially, the authorities released 15,000 cusecs of water into the river Godavari by opening five gates up to a height of a half meter.  Later, the authorities steadily increased the outflow. Presently, over 1,22,333 cusecs of water have been discharged into the river by opening 20 gates against a total of 62 gates.

The project was receiving 83,521 cusecs of water including 48,604 cusecs from Kaddam project and 34,917 cusecs of water from its catchment areas. The authorities have stopped the lifting of water from the pump houses and only 304 cusecs of water being supply through the Hyderabad metro water works board.

Against the storage capacity of 20.175 tmcs, the water level is maintained at 18.6472 tmcs in the project

Executive Engineer G Swamy said that they had stopped the movement of vehicles on the dam following heavy inflows into the project following the copious rainfall in its catchment areas. He appealed to the cooperate with the irrigation officials.
