Heavy rains lash Hyderabad city

HYDERABAD, MAY 16, 2024:  Heavy rains followed by thunderstorms lashed various parts of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) disrupting the normal life in Hyderabad city on Thursday evening.

Highest rainfall of 86.5 mm rainfall was reported in Venkateshwara colony in Banjara hills, followed by 84.5 mm rainfall in Malakpet millath, 83 mm in Begum bazaar, 77.3 mm in Khairtabad, 76.8 mm in Lungarhouz, 76 mm in Nampally, and others parts of the city recorded more than 60 mm rainfall inundated several low-lying areas and causing serious traffic snarls.

The weather forecast officials said that there was every possibility of heavy rains on Thursday night and cautioned to people to remain indoors and be alert. On the other hand, the rains had lashed at the Uppal stadium where the IPL matches were being held. The authorities are struggling hard to restore the match by deploying the staff to dewater the stadium.
