TIRUMALA, AUGUST 12, 2024: The annual Chatra Sthapanotsavams will be observed at Tirumala on August 16, 2024, at Srivari Padalu (holy feet).
This traditional event includes special pujas dedicated to the divine feet of Lord Venkateswara at Srivari Padalu, followed by the installation of new umbrellas. It is believed that Lord Venkateshwara kept his first food on this hill during Kaliyug. Accordingly, the ritual of worship the divine feet is conducted in the Sravana month on Dwadashi.
A significant belief tied to this unique festival is that the winds blow strongly around Narayanagiri hill (highest hill on Tirumala hills) during this season. To honour and appease the wind god, Vayudeva, new sets of umbrellas (Chatrams) are offered from this highest point on the hill. The ritual is seen as a way to seek Vayudeva’s blessings and protection for the well-being of the devotees and the region. The event draws pilgrims from all over, who will be granted darshan following the rituals, and prasadams will be distributed.
