BJP leader urges Telangana government to ament POT Act of 1977

KARIMNAGAR, JANUARY 20, 2025: BJP senior leader Nethakani Durgam Maruthi urged the state government to amend the Prohibition of Transfers (POT) Act, 1977, to ensure that the beneficiaries could sell and the people could purchase the assigned lands in the Telangana state.

Accordingly, the BJP leader submitted a petition to Collector Pamela Satpathy in the Collectorate in Karimnagar town on Monday. In his petition, Maruthi stated that more than 25 lakh people were possessing the assigned lands in the Telangana state. With the changing scenario, then Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy amended the POT Act, 1977, allowing the beneficiaries to sell and allow purchasing of the assigned lands in the Andhra Pradesh state.

Reminding that Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy during an election meeting had promised to amend the POT Act, the BJP leader demanded the government to amend the Act and take measures to ensure that the Dalits and others sell or purchase the assigned lands in the Telangana state.

He said that the government had distributed lands to the ex-servicemen, freedom fighters and political beneficiaries and allowed them to sell their lands after 10 years. Similarly, he urged the government to allow the SC\ST and BC beneficiaries to sell the assigned lands.
