World Hypertension Day is observed on May 17 every year with an aim to raise awareness about the risks associated with the condition and to promote effective strategies for its prevention and management. The theme for World Hypertension Day 2026 is “Controlling Hypertension Together!” The World Health Organisation (WHO) expands this focus with the slogan: “Check your blood pressure regularly, defeat the silent killer”.
Accordingly, senior Physician and API Karimnagar chapter Dr D Raghu Ramam conducted a free BP check-up, Obesity and BMI check-up camps were conducted. Out of the 97 persons who attended the camp, 12 new high BP patients and seven obesity patients were detected. The camp was conducted in association with Corona Remedies, Ahmedabad.
As part of the campaign, Dr Raghu Raman emphasised the need for proactive public health efforts to combat hypertension, often referred to as the ‘silent killer’. He highlighted the importance of early detection, prevention and lifestyle modifications. An interactive session was conducted, during which Dr Raghu Raman addressed various queries raised by the attendees.

Hypertension often has no symptoms but can lead to serious health issues like heart disease, stroke and kidney damage if left untreated. While high blood pressure is a common condition, if left untreated it can lead to serious condition. Missing medication, wrong drug combinations or lifestyle choices like consuming excess salt, smoking etc can lead to complications. According to the experts, a few meaningful changes in the lifestyle can help prevent, delay, or even reduce the need for medication.
