Availability of the present water table could meet the requirement for another 130 days only

TTD appeals to devotees to use water judiciously

TIRUMALA, AUGUST 21, 2024: Even as various parts of the country had been receiving heavy rainfall, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam has appealed to the devotees not to waste water and use it judiciously following the availability of poor storage in five reservoirs on Tirumala hills.

The TTD had stated that the availability of water in the five prime dams at Tirumala has been assessed to meet the water needs of the locals and pilgrims of the Hill town for another 130 days only. With the ensuing Brahmotsavams and other festivities, the temple authorities are worried a lot about the acute shortage in the reservoirs of the Tirumula to meet the requirements of the devotees.

The TTD authorities stated that the Tirumala temple shrine requires daily 43 lakh gallons of water to meet the requirements of the devotees. Among them about 18 lakh gallons of water is supplied from the dams on the Tirumala hills and the remaining from the Kalyani dam in Tirupati.

Against the storage capacity of 14,304 lakhs gallons of water in Gogarbam, Akasha Ganga, Papa Vinashanam, Kumaradhara and Pasupudhara dams, presently the water availability was only 5,800 lakhs of gallons of water.

In the wake of ensuing Brahmotavams from October 4 to 12, the TTD has decided to launch special campaign to educate the devotees to use water judiciously.
