HYDERABAD, JUNE 30, 2024: N Balaram, Chairman and Managing Director of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has been presented with the title of ‘Tree Man of Telangana’ by the Green Maple Foundation in recognition of his serving of having planted more than 18,000 saplings and creating 35 mini-forests in six districts of Telangana, besides transforming Singareni into an environmental welfare organisation.
The award was presented Mr Balaram at a function organised by Green Maple foundation in Hyderabad on Saturday night. Every year, Green Maple presents such incentive awards to prominent public sector and private sector companies and influential people who are working towards environmental protection in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Balaram said that the Singareni along with excavation of coal was also according priority for the protection of the environment and planted more than six crore saplings across entire coal belt. He said that he had set a target of personally planting 2,000 saplings during this year and taking the total plantation of 20,000 saplings. He said that the SCCL had decided to plant 40 lakh saplings during this year in the coal belt. He also said that they were teaching environmental in the Singareni schools to inculcate the spirit of environmentalism in children from a young age by appointing green captains.
