TPUS urges election authorities to exempt senior citizens, pregnant women and lactating mothers from poll duties

They also urged the authorities to ensure adequate facilities at distribution centres and polling duties following the sweltering heatwaves

KARIMNAGAR, MAY 01, 2024: The Telangana Prantha Upadyay Sangham (TPUS) Karimnagar district unit has urged the District Election Officer and Collector Pamela Satpathy to exempt deployment of senior citizens who attained the age of 60 years from the election duties, which are scheduled to be held on May 13, following the blistering heatwave conditions.

The TPUS district president Katta Rajesh and general secretary Annamaneni Tirupati Rao submitted a memorandum to Additional Collector Laxmi Kiran in Karimnagar town on Wednesday. They urged the District election authorities to ensure that the senior citizens, pregnant women and lactating mothers were exempted from the poll related duties following the sweltering heat waves in the district.

Similarly, they also urged the authorities to ensure that there were adequate facilities for the polling duties deployed at the distribution centres and polling stations. They informed the authorities to ensure that there was adequate air-coolers, drinking water and quality food distribution to the staff to avoid any untoward incidents such as health problems following the heatwaves. TPUS district vice presidents J Sashidhar and K Haricharan, treasurer Vinayadhar Raju, district secretary R Pawan Kumar were also present.
