

RAJANNA-SIRCILLA, SEPTEMBER 09, 2024: Students of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree College for women, Sircilla, celebrated Telangana Bhasha Dinotsavam (Telangana language day) to commemorate the birth anniversary of the poet, freedom fighter and social reformer Kaloji Narayana Rao on Monday (September 9, 2024).


Mr Narayana Rao was a prominent figure in the promotion of Telugu literature and his role in the cultural awakening of the Telangana language. The event highlighted the rich linguistic heritage of Telangana, and encouraged the preservation and growth of the Telugu language.

Kaloji, a social reformer who participated during the first Telangana statehood movement in 1969, was popularly called ‘Praja Kavi’ for his ability to articulate the struggles and aspirations of the common people. His poetry often focused on social justice, human values, and the Telangana people’s identity. His notable literary contributions include ‘Na Godava’, a collection of poems filled with wit, satire, and social commentary. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1992 for his literature and public service contributions.
As part of the celebrations, the College NSS wing and the Department of Telugu conducted the Telangana Language Day celebrations. School Assistant (Tharur) Kadari Sridhar enlightened the students about the life of Kaloji and his role during the freedom struggle and the Telangana statehood movement. Telugu HOD S Sandhya Rani, faculty A Swapna, Lavanya, R Umadevi, Nirmala Hrudaya, G Swapna, R.Deepthi, Ayesha Fathima, Asfia Jabeen, Arpitha, Alekya and others were also present.
