Students celebrate Ashadam mehendi festival at Bhagavathi high school

KARIMNAGAR, JULY 29, 2024: Gorintaku or mehendi, is traditionally used as a decorative element holds particularly significant during the Ashada month, apart from its aesthetic appeal, Gorintaku is believed to offer health benefits also.

Accordingly, the students of Bhagavathi High School, Bhagathnagar, Karimnagar take part in the Gorintaku (mehendi) festival on Saturday with much pomp and enthusiasm. As part of ‘No bag day’ celebrations on every month fourth Saturday, the students had fun participating in the mehendi competitions. The girl students adorned their hands with beautifully designed henna patterns, signifying good fortune when the henna ripens to a rich red colour. The students applied various designs and exhibited their talent in the form mehendi art. The aim of the celebration was to inculcate among the learners interest in traditional customs of India exhibited on various festive occasions.

Ayurvedic practitioners suggest that it helps in reducing body heat, boosts immunity and improves blood circulation. Using natural henna, derived from nature instead of artificial colours, is recommended for maximum health benefits. The Gorintaku festival is deeply rooted in ancestral traditions and has been passed down through generations. As women gather to exchange Gorintaku patterns and rejoice in song and dance, they not only preserve their ancestral customs but also embrace the richness of their cultural heritage.
