

HYDERABAD, APRIL 30, 2025: Veena R. Srinivas, Member (Infrastructure), Postal Services Board, Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, released a Special Postal Cover titled “Arts & Crafts of Telangana Tribes” on April 30, 2025. The release ceremony took place at the Shraddha Conference Hall, Dak Sadan, Abids, Hyderabad–500001 in the presence of Dr. P.V.S. Reddy, Chief Postmaster General, Telangana and N.R. Visalatchy, Postmaster General, Headquarters Region.


The Special Cover and Information Sheet present a vivid overview of Telangana’s tribal arts, crafted by indigenous communities from regions around the Godavari basin and Nallamala hills. Highlights include: Lambadi Embroidery: Vibrant needlework by Lambadi women using mirrors, coins and shells; Oja/Dokra Metal Crafts: Intricate brass items by Oja Gonds of Adilabad, depicting nature and animals; Tribal Paintings: Revived Koya and Gond artworks featuring ceremonial motifs like Padiges and daily life scenes; Miniature Wooden Masks (Shirassulu): Symbolic masks by Naikpod artisans representing deities and animals; Bamboo & Palm Leaf Products: Decorative and functional crafts by Kolam and Kondareddi tribes.
The Special Cover showcases a vibrant collage of images representing the diverse arts and crafts of Telangana’s tribal communities. It visually captures the essence of traditional practices such as Lambadi embroidery, Dokra metal craft, tribal paintings, wooden masks and bamboo products, offering a glimpse into the cultural richness and craftsmanship of the region.
The Special Cancellation was designed using a line drawing of a traditional wooden mask, an iconic element of tribal art in Telangana. This symbolic representation pays tribute to the deep-rooted artistic traditions of the indigenous communities and highlights their role in preserving the cultural identity of the state.
Special Postal Cover along with an Information Brochure on “Arts & Crafts of Telangana Tribes with special cancellation is priced at Rs. 25/- & without cancellation is priced at Rs. 20/-. It will be available for sale at all the Philatelic Bureaus (all Head Post Offices) and online @ epostoffice.gov.in
