JAGTIAL, AUGUST 07, 2026: SKNR Government Arts & Science College in Jagtial celebrated the Telangana Bonalu Festival and Ashadam Gorintaku (Mehendi) Festival with great enthusiasm and traditional fervour under the joint auspices of the National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC), and Women Empowerment Cell (WEC) on Friday.
The celebrations showcased the rich cultural heritage and traditions of Telangana. Students dressed in traditional attire added colour and vibrancy to the college campus, creating a festive atmosphere.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Principal Prof. Adepu Srinivas highlighted the cultural, historical, and spiritual significance of the Bonalu festival. He stated that Bonalu is a symbol of Telangana’s unique cultural identity and has been an integral part of rural society for generations. He explained that the festival reflects devotion to Goddess Mahankali, prayers for the prosperity and well-being of villages, community harmony, and the preservation of Telangana’s cultural heritage. On the occasion, he offered Bonam to the Goddess as part of the traditional rituals.
Prof. Srinivas also spoke about the importance of the Ashadam Gorintaku Festival, describing it as one of the most cherished traditions among girls and women during the holy month of Ashadam. He explained that Gorintaku (Mehendi) is not only a symbol of beauty and celebration but also has several health benefits. It represents family bonding, cultural values, and the rich traditions that have been passed down through generations. He emphasised that such cultural programmes help students understand, appreciate, and preserve the heritage and traditions of Telangana.
Later, a special Puja was performed to Goddess Saraswathi on the college campus, where faculty members and students offered prayers seeking blessings for knowledge, wisdom, academic excellence, and the welfare of society.
As part of the celebrations, a Mehendi application programme was organised for girl students, who participated enthusiastically. Telangana folk songs and traditional cultural activities reflecting the spirit of the Bonalu festival captivated everyone present. Students, NCC cadets, and NSS volunteers actively participated, making the celebrations colourful, joyful, and memorable.
The programme was attended by NCC Officer Lt. P. Raju, faculty members A. Govardan, K. Surender, K. Srinivas, Mahesh, Anil, P. Srinivas, Naresh, Pramod, Kavitha, Supriya, Rajitha, and Latha, along with non-teaching staff, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, and a large number of students, all of whom contributed to the grand success of the event.
