Measures Underway to Raise Transportation from 10,000 to 14,000 Tonnes per Day

Directs Further Enhancement of Transportation in Coordination with Angul District Administration
HYDERABAD, SEPTEMBER 17, 2026: SCCL Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti directed the General Managers of Singareni areas to step up coal production to facilitate enhanced supplies to all thermal power stations in Telangana in view of the El Niño conditions.
At the same time, he directed that coal supplies from Naini in Odisha to Yadadri, the largest GENCO thermal power station in the state, be increased further. While an average of around 2,100 tonnes of coal is currently being transported from Naini per day, he made it clear that all necessary measures should be taken to gradually increase the transportation to 10,000–14,000 tonnes per day.
In accordance with the directions of the state government, he stressed that the highest priority should be accorded to Telangana’s energy requirements and that coal supplies to thermal power stations should be further enhanced. On Thursday afternoon, the CMD held a detailed review with the Singareni Directors, Executive Director (Coal Movement) and the General Manager of Naini Area in Odisha on coal production, stock position and transportation arrangements.
He directed the officials to accord special focus to enhancing Naini coal supplies to Yadadri Thermal Power Station and to identify the bottlenecks in the transportation process and resolve them immediately. Naini Area GM Shri Baidya informed the CMD that adequate coal stocks are available at the Naini mine to meet transportation requirements. Considering the local conditions, the GM explained that coal is currently being transported by trucks to the railway sidings during night hours. Responding to this, the CMD suggested increasing the number of trucks to move the available coal to the railway sidings as quickly as possible. He also directed that coordination be maintained with the state GENCO in this regard. If the existing transportation arrangements are found to be inadequate, the officials were instructed to arrange additional transportation contracts as required.
The CMD directed the officials to examine all possible alternatives required to raise coal transportation to 10,000–14,000 tonnes per day. In particular, he advised them to coordinate with the Angul district administration in Odisha and resolve issues affecting the movement of coal by road. He directed the Executive Director (Coal Movement) to continuously monitor matters including ensuring the availability of railway rakes at the railway siding. He instructed all concerned departments to work in coordination to enhance supplies from Naini to Yadadri Thermal Power Station. He stressed that everyone must remain fully vigilant to ensure that thermal power stations do not face any shortage of coal.
