VC and others pay tributes to the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi, Ambedkar, Bhagath Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad
KARIMNAGAR, SEPTEMBER 17, 2026: The role of educationists and universities is to guide the future citizens by giving correct information and not misleading the youth about national events.
However, the Satavahana University, during the Telangana Liberation Day (Praja Palana Dinotsavam) celebrations on Thursday had displayed the portraits of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi and the Father of the Indian Constitution, Dr BR Ambedkar and Revolutionary freedom fighters Bhagath Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad and paid tributes by garlanding their portraits at the flagpole on the university premises.
In what way are Mahatma Gandhi, Ambedkar, Bhagath Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad connected with the liberation of Hyderabad state from the clutches of the Nizam rulers? Ironically, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948, even before the launch of ‘Operation Polo’ to liberate the Hyderabad state and merge it with the Indian Union.
Incidentally, Dr BR Ambedkar is also not at all concerned with the Telangana liberation. Even the revolutionary leader Bhagath Singh was killed by the British on March 23, 1931, at the age of 23. Another revolutionary leader, Chandrashekhar Azad, was killed in a gun battle with the British on February 27, 1931, when he was 24 years old.
The Satavahana University, which transforms future citizens, is giving misinformation about the historic Telangana Liberation Day by respecting the Telangana martyrs’ memorial, Sardar Vallabhai Patel, and others involved in the liberation struggle against the Nizam rulers. What exactly does the University want to say to the future generation with this wrong message? Does the University feel that it should pay tributes to the portraits of national leaders during the hoisting of the national flag and insult Telangana martyrs?
Satavahana University Vice-Chancellor Prof. U Umesh Kumar unfurled the National Flag, alongside University Registrar Prof. P. Satish Kumar, and offered a salute to the National Anthem and the state song. Principals of constituent colleges, Prof. K. Padmavathi, NV Sriranga Prasad, S Ramakanth, CoE D. Suresh Kumar, heads of academic departments, administrative officials, teaching and non-teaching staff, and students participated.
