NALGONDA, SEPTEMBER 05, 2026: Y. Prashanthi, an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), has been honoured with the State Best Teacher Award on the occasion of Teachers day celebrations on Saturday.
The prestigious accolade was presented by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy alongside higher education officials during a ceremony held in Kodangal on Saturday. Prashanthi’s educational journey commenced in Ramannapet, proceeding to Triveni Junior College in Suryapet. She obtained her degree from Nagarjuna Government College in Nalgonda, did her post-graduation at Kakatiya University, and earned her PhD from Osmania University.
Her research portfolio includes valuable experiences at the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) in Hyderabad, followed by postdoctoral research in Taiwan, culminating in her role as an Assistant Professor at MGU. Deeply appreciative of her achievements, Dr. Prashanthi credits her parents, Pratap Reddy and Leela Kumari, for their steadfast support throughout her academic endeavors. Her mother, a Headmistress, played a pivotal role in fostering her passion for education. She also acknowledges her husband, Putta Venkata Ramana Reddy, Director at Gautami Educational Institutions in Nalgonda, and their son Rahul Reddy presently studying in Sweden, for their encouragement. Dr. Prashanthi recognizes that the support from family, friends, and colleagues, along with gratitude from her students, has been instrumental in her success. Her influence extends beyond the classroom, as she actively engages in research, organizes seminars, conferences, and workshops on both national and international platforms, and has an impressive publication record in notable journals.
She has showcased her research at international seminars in countries such as the United States, Singapore, England, and Taiwan, earning numerous awards for her academic contributions. Dr. Prashanthi has authored seven books, contributed to ten textbooks, published 50 research papers, presented at more than 30 conferences, and holds six patents. Her tireless efforts to elevate academic standards at the university, enhance student skills, and improve placement prospects are evident in her various roles, including CDC Coordinator, UGC Coordinator, Head of Department, and Director of the Placement Cell. Currently, she serves the University as the Director of Academic Audit and Development. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Khaja Althaf Hussain, Registrar Prof. Koppula Anji Reddy, the Principal of the Science College, and faculty members from the Chemistry Department extended their heartfelt congratulations on the occasion.
