Pneumonia patient with severe complications recovers after 40 days in ICU at Yashoda hospital

Dr Vishveshwaran Balasubramanyam advises people to take vaccine shots to prevent flu and pneumonia

KARIMNAGAR, NOVEMBER 20, 2024: A 50-year-old Sangu Srinivas from Karimnagar, who was suffering from severe pneumonia, recovered after 40 days of treatment in ICU, discharged from Yashoda hospital, Somajiguda, Hyderabad.

The patient an IT professional was suffering from fever and it was developed into serious pneumonia was referred to Yashoda hospital in critical condition. The doctors had shifted him ICU and started treatment. During the scan, it was found that the patient was suffering from severe pneumonia and liver abscess. Due to infection, he developed sepsis and septic shock and the patient was put on ventilator.

Later, the doctors performed surgery and removed pus from the liver. He was provided treatment continuously for 40 days at ICU by putting him on ECMO advanced life support and providing anti-biotics. He was saved from severe pneumonia and sepsis and he is recovering well.

Disclosing this to newsmen at Yashoda health centre in Karimnagar town, Dr Vishveshwaran Balasubramanyam, Pulmonary and Critical care medicine (gold medalist) informed the people suffering from fever not to neglect the symptoms of pneumonia. If anyone suffering from continuous fever, cough and breathlessness, he should consult the pulmonologist for early treatment pneumonia and check the spread of infection to other vital organs, he said.

Stating that Srinivas condition deteriorated due to neglect of symptoms and complications in his body, he suggested the people not to neglect the early symptoms of pneumonia and start early treatment by consulting pulmonologist. Prevention is better than cure, he said and advised the people to take vaccination for flu and pneumonia diseases. He said that the patients suffering heart ailments, diabetes, kidney ailments and others should definitely take vaccine for flu and pneumonia.

Patient Srinivas thanked Dr Vishveshwaran Balasubramanyam and his team for round the clock observation and for giving him new lease of life. I am happy to see back my family and parents, he quipped and appealed to the people not to approach pulmonologist if they experience high temperature, cough and breathlessness continuously for three days for early detection and treatment for pneumonia.
