Karimnagar to Tirupati train service would be upgraded to four times a week

KARIMNAGAR, MAY 22, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has virtually inaugurated the redeveloped Karimnagar railway station, along with it, the Warangal and Begumpet railway stations in Telangana were also opened to the public.
The Karimnagar railway station has been redeveloped into a modern transit hub, reflecting the rich heritage of Telangana under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at an estimated cost of Rs 27 crore. Union Minister of state for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Minister for Transport and BC Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar and others graced the function in Karimnagar town.
“The transformation of Karimnagar Railway Station is remarkable. With an investment of over ₹27 crore, the station has been thoroughly modernised and now offers facilities that rival those of an airport. It features lifts, escalators, foot overbridges, AC and non-AC waiting halls, food courts, restaurants, clean restrooms, reservation and ticket counters, a solar power plant, upgraded access roads, and well-sheltered platforms. Especially at night, the station presents a vibrant, modern look. The fact that visitors are stopping to take selfies speaks volumes about the station’s new appeal, Mr Sanjay said.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sanjay said: “In the past, some leaders, including those from BRS, simply wrote letters and washed their hands off the responsibility. Now, when all this development is happening, they are claiming credit as if it’s all because of them.” He said that the modernisation of the Karimnagar Railway Station stands as a clear example of who truly contributed to the development of railway stations. He further stated that the Jammikunta Railway Station will soon be included under the Amrit Bharat scheme and modernised as well. He mentioned that a detailed project report (DPR) has already been prepared after surveying the new 61 km railway line from Karimnagar to Hasanparthy. According to the DPR, the construction is estimated to cost ₹1,480 crore, and the central government will soon decide on it.
He also mentioned that both he and Ponnam Prabhakar had written letters requesting a daily train from Karimnagar to Tirupati. However, due to congestion and technical issues, it was not feasible. Currently, the train runs twice a week, and efforts are being made to increase it to four times a week. MLCs Malka Komaraiah and Anjireddy, and senior officials from the Railway Department also attended.
