Minister Ponnam Prabhakar celebrates increase of Diet and Cosmetic charges with inmates of BC hostel in Karimnagar

KARIMNAGAR, NOVEMBER 01, 2024: Minister for Transport and BC Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar celebrated the Diwali Gift of increasing the Diet and Cosmetic charges in all the social welfare of the Telangana by celebrating Diwali festival with the inmates of the Government BC Residential School in Sharma Nagar in Karimnagar town on Friday.

On this occasion, the Minister visited the hostel and interacted with the inmates and cut the cake along with the students. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the then-BRS government had not increased the diet and cosmetic charges despite the inflation of essential commodities. The Congress government, which is the people’s government, had increased the charges benefitting the student community, he stated.

It may be recalled that the state government has raised diet and cosmetic charges in all social welfare hostels. Diet charges for students from classes 3 to 7 have been increased from Rs 950 to Rs 1,330 per boarder, and for classes 8 to 10, from Rs 1,100 to Rs 1,540. For students from Intermediate to postgraduate levels, diet charges have been raised from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,100 per boarder. Cosmetic charges for girl students in classes 3 to 7 have been increased from Rs 55 to Rs 175, while for girl students in classes 8 to 10, the charges have been raised from Rs 75 to Rs 275 per boarder. For boys in classes 3 to 7, the charges have been increased from Rs 62 to Rs 150, while for boys in classes 8 to 10 and above 11 years, the charges have been enhanced from Rs 62 to Rs 200 per boarder.

The Minister said that out of a total of 1020 residential buildings only 320 were housed in own buildings and remaining in the rented buildings. The government had already 50 percent of rent by releasing Rs 100 crore, he said and added that the buildings rents were pending for over 50 months and the Congress government had cleared the rents.

Stating that the Congress government had made debts to the tune of over Rs 7 lakh and were not in a position to pay salaries to the employees, he said that the Congress government after attaining power was providing salaries on first of every month. Zilla Grandhalaya Samstha Chairman Sathu Mallesh, Jagtial Municipal chairman, corporators, RCO Anjani, principal Venugopal and others were also present.
