KARIMNAGAR, AUGUST 17, 2024: The medical services have been crippled in Karimnagar town, which is the centre for super-speciality services in the north Telangana region, following the 24-hour strike call given by the Indian Medical Association on Saturday in protest against the brutal rape and murder of a medico Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical college and hospital in West Bengal state.
The doctors went on a strike from 6 am on Saturday on a call given by the IMA, which demanded a proper investigation into the gruesome crime on the premises of Kolkata hospital recently. The other major demands of the IMA included a central law to check violence against healthcare workers, the declaration of hospitals across the country as safe zones on lines of airports and appropriate duty hours for doctors.
Following the doctors’ strike, the medical services were affected at all the hospitals and the patients had to struggle a lot for treatment. The doctors could treat only medical emergencies or pregnant women and other cases. The doctors stopped the OP services as they participated in the strike. The patients suffering from the fevers, which have become rampant due to lethargy on the MCK authorities to launch anti-mosquito drive and proper sanitation, had faced the brunt of the strike.
Denouncing the criminal act against the medical student in Kolkota, the IMA Karimnagar chapter has staged a massive dharna in front of the Collectorate in Karimnagar town for around two hours causing severe traffic snarls. Similarly, the government general hospital doctors and para-medical staff also participated in the strike in Karimnagar affecting the medical services to the poor patients.
