KARIMNAGAR, OCTOBER 24, 2024: The Karimnagar District Congress leaders have urged Karimnagar Municipal Commissioner Chahat Bajpai to allocate a site and permission for the installation of statue of veteran Congress leader and former Karimnagar MLA Velichala Jagapathi Rao in the Karimnagar town.
Mr Jagapathi Rao was elected to the State Legislative Assembly for the first time from Jagtial constituency in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh on Congress ticket. He was a member of the Legislative Council from the Karimnagar Graduates’ Constituency during 1978. He had won as an independent candidate from the Karimnagar Assembly constituency in 1989. Mr Rao held several key positions including chairman of APMarkfed in undivided Andhra Pradesh state.
He strived for the development of Karimnagar with a vision and always was in the forefront for the upliftment of poorer sections of society. Hence, the Congress leaders urged the MCK Commissioner to allocate a suitable site for the installation of Mr Rao’s statue in Karimnagar. Congress leaders submitted the petition include Sircilla Ratan Raju, Gandi Rajeshwar, Gandi Shyam, Puli Narsingam, Kasarapu Kiran, Gandi Ganesh, Peddi Ravi and others.
