NALGONDA, SEPTEMBER 08, 2026: “Management education should be viewed as a tool for social transformation rather than merely a pathway to employment,” said Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) Prof Khaja Althaf Hussain.
Participating as the Chief Guest in an induction programme for newly enrolled students of MBA and Integrated MBA courses on Tuesday, Vice Chancellor Prof. Althaf highlighted that MBA provides ambitious individuals, including those from modest or underprivileged backgrounds, the opportunity to harness their potential through avenues like business, innovation, entrepreneurship, and ethical management. With a foundation rooted in ethics, inclusivity, and social responsibility, businesses can generate jobs, alleviate poverty, and foster a more compassionate and just society. Prof. Althaf encouraged students to develop skills suitable for the fast-evolving global job market, including digital literacy, effective communication, problem-solving, leadership, teamwork, and an entrepreneurial mindset. He pointed out that being multilingual would enhance career possibilities across different regions and sectors and urged students to foster discipline, self-motivation, and “atomic habits” — the practice of engaging in small, consistent actions like reading, reflection, punctuality, and skill development. He also highlighted the importance of building healthy professional networks with peers, alumni, faculty, and industry connections, as well as maintaining an inclusive mindset that honours diversity, human dignity, and social justice.
Reaffirming the university’s strict policy against ragging, he labelled it as an inhumane act and encouraged upperclassmen to embrace new students with mentorship and support. He warned against substance abuse, describing its dire consequences on health, academics, family, and career prospects. The programme served to introduce students to the university’s academic ethos, values, support systems, and anticipated responsibilities. Prof. Althaf expressed his belief that MGU, bolstered by its academic culture and infrastructure, would emerge as a hub for learning, innovation, and leadership if students dedicated themselves to their studies with discipline, integrity, creativity, and social commitment.
