HYDERABAD, MAY 22, 2024: Every year, Telangana Biodiversity Board (TBDB) celebrates International Day for Biological Diversity (IBD) based on the theme released by the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).The main objective of CBD is to develop national strategies for the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity, which is followed for this year’s theme also.
This year the theme is “BE PART OF THE PLAN” which means a call to action for all stakeholders to halt and reverse the loss of biodiversity. Based on the theme, TBDB has decided to conduct Awareness programs and online competitions like Painting, Elocution, Dance, Essay Writing, Quiz Competitions, and Cartoon designing forstudents and the public from 07.03.2024 to 18.05.2024, which will create an impact among students and the public, make them understand about the importance of Biodiversity and conservation of nature.
Also, TBDB assisted in conducting district-level programmes like Plantation drives, saying no to single-use plastic, Biodiversity rallies, Workshops, and Lectures on “Importance of Millets” in Telangana as part of the IBD day celebration. Districts such as Ranga Reddy, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Warangal, Karimnagar, Nalgonda, Hyderabad, Khammam, and Medak have conducted various programs for the college students along with BMC members in their specific districts as part of IBD-2024.
The International Day for Biological Diversity (IBD) celebrated on 22nd May 2024, at Kasu Brahmananda Reddy (KBR) National Park,Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. Vani Prasad, Principal Secretary to Govt., EFS&T Department and Director General, EPTRI, Mohan Chandra Pargaien, Prl.Chief Conservator of Forest (WL) & Chief Wildlife Warden & (FCA) and Kalicharan S. Khartade, Secretary, Telangana Biodiversity Board has been invited to the event. A total of 250 students will attend the event. Eventually, prizes and certificates for the competitions will be collected by the event’s winners. The event concluded with a keynote requesting the public to conserve natural resources without destroying them.
