HYDERABAD, AUGUST 15, 2026: The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with pride and patriotic fervour at the Income Tax Towers, Masab Tank, Hyderabad, on Saturday.
The celebrations commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by Shri Suresh Battini, Principal, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Officers and staff of the Income Tax Department participated in the programme with great enthusiasm, reflecting their commitment to the values of freedom, unity and national service.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Suresh Battini highlighted the significance of Independence Day and paid tribute to the freedom fighters whose sacrifices paved the way for the nation’s independence. He highlighted various initiatives relating to employee welfare, cleanliness, sustainability, Karmayogi training, taxpayer engagement and disciplined and transparent tax administration. He called upon all employees to contribute towards building an innovative, healthy, clean, sustainable and taxpayer-trusted Department, aligned with Viksit Bharat @2047.
As part of the celebrations, the Transforming Together newsletter, comprising key events and achievements of the AP & TG Charge, and the Champions Idea magazine, comprising novel and innovative ideas aimed at enhancing tax collection, were released. The Safaikarmacharis from GHMC were also recognised for their valuable and selfless contribution in ensuring cleanliness in the public spaces.
As part of its social responsibility initiatives, the Sphoorti – The Women Employees Association of the Income Tax Department undertook sponsorship of the fees for the first and second-year Intermediate education of economically disadvantaged girl students of MVVM College, Begumpet.
The celebrations concluded with performances by the students of Sloka School, who presented Mallakhamba, aerial yoga, acrobatic stunts and Karra Saamu (stick combat). Mementoes were presented to the children in appreciation of their excellent performance.
The celebrations concluded on a note of pride, unity and renewed commitment to public service. The programme commemorated the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and reaffirmed the Department’s resolve to uphold the values of integrity, innovation, inclusivity and excellence in tax administration to contribute meaningfully towards Viksit Bharat @2047.
