ICA Global Cooperative Summit 2024: Strengthening Cooperatives for a Sustainable Future

NEW DELHI, NOVEMBER 21, 2024:  For the first time, the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) will conduct its General Assembly and Global Cooperative Conference in New Delhi from November 25 to 30, 2024.

For the first time in the 130-year history of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), the premier body for the Global Cooperative movement, the ICA General Assembly and Global Cooperative Conference will be hosted by India.

Dr R. Ganeshan, Director, at the Institute of Cooperative Management, Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India, highlighted the significance of the upcoming Global Cooperative Summit scheduled for November 25 to 30, 2024, in New Delhi. The summit envisioned as a landmark event, will unite global leaders, policymakers, cooperative professionals, and academicians to deliberate on innovative strategies and sustainable practices in the cooperative sector. The event underscores India’s commitment to fostering cooperative development as a cornerstone for inclusive economic growth.

Dr Ganeshan emphasized that the summit provides an unparalleled platform to showcase India’s pioneering initiatives in strengthening rural cooperatives, including the PACS computerization project, digital literacy campaigns, and the formation of new national cooperative federations. These efforts align with the vision of ‘Sahakar Se Samriddhi’, highlighting the transformative role of cooperatives in empowering rural communities and promoting self-reliance. He further added that the summit will include thematic discussions on governance, technology integration, and financial sustainability in cooperatives.

Dr SLNT Srinivas, Senior Faculty/Programme Director elaborated on the Ministry of Cooperation’s initiatives to scale up cooperatives across sectors like agriculture, dairy, fisheries, and women’s cooperatives. He stated that the Institute of Cooperative Management is actively contributing to these efforts by organizing awareness campaigns, capacity-building programs, and knowledge-sharing sessions. The summit will also include case studies of successful cooperative models from India and abroad, providing valuable insights into best practices and innovative approaches.
