Citizenship case hearings completed, Lawyers plea to endorse 2019 High Court Judgement in his favour
RAJANNA-SIRCILLA, OCTOBER 22, 2024: Former Vemulawada legislator Chennamaneni Ramesh’s lawyers have pleaded that the judgement of 2019 by the Telangana High Court establishing the Indian Citizenship of Dr. Ramesh under section 10.3 may be endorsed.

Section 10.3 says: “The Central Government shall not deprive a person of citizenship under this section unless it is satisfied that it is not conducive to the public good that the person should continue to be a Citizen of India.”
“Conduciveness to the Public Good” means depriving in the public interest on the grounds of involvement in terrorism, espionage, serious organised crime, war crimes or unacceptable behaviours.” However, a three men Committee established by the Home Ministry, Government of India, in March 2017 reported that “Dr Ramesh Chennamaneni is a sitting MLA and has no criminal background or no criminal case has been filed against him. He has not been reportedly involved in any activity of terrorism, espionage, serious organized crime or war crime”.
Further, the lawyers led by Mr Rama Rao have clarified the issue of the German passport used by Dr Ramesh for travel along with his PIO card. He said that Dr. Ramesh has informed in his affidavit to the High Court in 2022 that he has used the German passport along with his PIO card with the permission of the German authorities exclusively for travel to Germany and India and is ready to surrender it. Moreover, when enquired by the Ministry of External Affairs of India regarding the use of a German Passport for travel Dr. Ramesh, the German Embassy in New Delhi has stated categorically that “a person might hold a German passport, but he or she does not have to be a German Citizen”.
Because of this, Dr. Ramesh’s lawyers pleaded with the High Court for the affirmation of section 10.3 and his Indian citizenship as endorsed by this HC in 2019.
