HANAMKONDA, DECEMBER 17, 2024: Renowned Cardiologist Dr Srinivas Ramaka underscored the need for governments to take concrete steps to strengthen India’s healthcare system, stating that the current system has failed to instill public confidence.
He was delivering a lecture on ‘Cardiac Arrest and Precautions’ during the Pensioners’ Day event organized by the Kakatiya University Retired Teachers’ Association (KURTA) at the Senate Hall on the university campus on Tuesday. Dr. Srinivas emphasized the importance of mandatory CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) training and teaching. “When a person collapses suddenly, high-quality CPR, including chest compressions, must be performed to revive them. Awareness campaigns on CPR should be conducted in schools and colleges to improve outcomes for cardiac arrest victims,” he said. He also called for tobacco prevention to be addressed more seriously.
Presiding over the programme, KURTA President Prof. A. Sadanandam highlighted the significance of Pensioners’ Day and praised the retired teachers for their active participation despite unfavourable weather conditions. He assured the gathering that their concerns would be conveyed to the university administration for resolution. During the event, former Chairman of the Indian Council of Historical Research, Prof. Y. Sudershan Rao, proposed establishing a center for advanced research on the university campus. Prof. M. Kishtaiah suggested organizing a family get-together in the serene atmosphere of Medaram forest, while several pensioners recommended holding KURTA meetings twice a year.
The event saw the participation of former Vice-Chancellors Prof. Vidyavati, Prof. V. Gopal Reddy, former Registrars Prof. N. Satyanarayana, Prof. K. Sudhakar, and Prof. A.P. Rao, among others. Former Vice-Chancellor of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University Prof. K. Seetharama Rao, former Vice-Chancellor of MG University Prof. Gangadhar, and former MP Prof. A. Seetharam Naik also spoke on the occasion. KURTA General Secretary Prof. V. Ravinder, Vice-President Prof. M. Erragattu Swamy, Joint Secretary Dr. Krishna Reddy, and Treasurer Prof. G. Veeranna were present, along with a large number of retired teachers. Pensioners aged over 75 years were felicitated during the programme, and the gathering paid homage to deceased members by observing a two-minute silence. The event concluded with a call for greater collaboration and initiatives to address healthcare and other pressing issues affecting society.
