Drugs Control Authority raids a quack’s clinic and seizes medicines worth Rs 1.5 lakh in Wanaparthy district

HYDERABAD, DECEMBER 17, 2024: Officials of the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana raided a quack’s clinic and seized drugs worth Rs. 1.5 lakhs that were stocked for sale at Jangamaipally Village, Peddamandadi Mandal, Wanaparthy District. The drugs seized include Antibiotics, Steroids, and other medicines.

In an official release here on Tuesday, DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that on credible information, the Drugs Control Administration officials raided the premises of a quack, Batthula Ramulu, on Monday at Jangamaipally Village, Peddamandadi Mandal, Wanaparthy District. He was practicing medicine without proper qualifications at his clinic. During the raid, DCA officials detected 45 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics, steroids, antiulcer drugs, analgesics, etc., found stocked at the premises without a drug licence. DCA officials seized the stock, worth a total of Rs. 1.5 lakhs during the raid.

DCA officials detected several ‘antibiotics’ viz. Cefpodoxime, Cefixime, Amoxycillin etc. at the clinic during the raid. Indiscriminate sale of antibiotics, by unqualified persons may have disastrous consequences on the health of public, including emergence of ‘Antimicrobial Resistance’. Officials found ‘steroids’ viz. Prednisolone, Dexamethasone at the clinic of quack. Misusing steroids can have serious health consequences, including immune system suppression, hormonal imbalances, muscle and bone weakness, cardiovascular problems, and psychological effects. The indiscriminate use of steroids poses significant risks to public health. A. Rashmi, Drugs Inspector, Wanaparthy and Sk. Rabiya, Drugs Inspector, Mahbubnagar carried out the raid.

The public may report any suspected manufacturing activity related to drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas, as well as any other complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines, through the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on all working days.
