Health awareness and skills enhancement programmes held at GDC Gambhiraopet

RAJANNA-SIRCILLA, MARCH 05, 2024: On the eve of International Women’s day celebrations, Doctors from Prathima Foundation (Prathima institute of medical sciences (PIMS) organised gyneac health awareness programme for the girl students of Government Degree College, Gambhiraopet in Rajanna-Sircilla district on Tuesday.

At an in-camera session, Dr Madhavi, Dr Parimala and Dr Meghana enlightened the girl students about menstruation and myths around it. They said the issues of women health were not addressed and they remained largely unaware because of the stereotypes surrounding the natural phenomenon of menstruation in women. Early sensitisation was important for them to become healthy adults, they stated and also educated them about hygiene and importance of vaccination for cervical cancer. Women’s hygiene and health is an important issue, but due to taboos in society, the issues is brushed under the carpet, but now it is high time young girls were encouraged to talk about their health, they pointed out.

At another programme, Prathima foundation incharge Kaushik and Manager Geetha Reddy educated the students on honing of their skills so that they can easily get the jobs in their field of choice after completing their education. College Principal V Vijaya Lakshmi presided over the meetings separately. Vice Principal Dass,  EDC Coordinator Manohar, faculty members Srivalli, Vani and others were also present.
