KARIMNAGAR, AUGUST 07, 2024: Collector Pamela Satpathy has assured the handloom weavers to set up a stall at the weekly ‘Prajavani’ (Grievances redressal day) on every Monday at the Collectorate for the purchase of their products by the people visiting the Collectorate.
Participating in the National Handlooms Day celebrations at the Collectorate auditorium in Karimnagar town on Wednesday, the Collector said that they would take all measures to open a special staff at the Collectorate to sell their products every Monday during the weekly ‘Prajavani programme. She also informed the weavers to prepare badges with the leftover fabrics for the official functions.
She called upon the weavers to produce value-added products as per the demand in the market and increase their sales. She said that they would purchase the bedsheets, curtains, doormats and other products required for the social welfare residential schools and colleges in the district. She said that the weavers should become brand ambassadors of their products and they should market their products with their creativity and produce value-added products.
Expressing concern over the extinction of the ancient art of handlooms, NAFSCOB and Karimnagar DCCB Chairman Konduru Ravinder Rao has called upon the youth to take up the handlooms and continue the legacy. Appealing the government to continue all the welfare schemes for the protection of handlooms sector, he said that the government should provide marketing facilities and yarn to the weavers. He also informed the weavers to diversify the traditional handlooms to produce value added products as per the requirement of the market demand.
SUDA chairman Komatireddy Narender Reddy assured all assistance for the protection and preservation of handlooms sector. He said that he would strive to provide financial assistance to weavers on par with the farming community. On this occasion, the Collector handed over financial assistance of Rs 16.19 lakhs to 20 weavers societies under ‘pavala vaddi’ scheme. She also distributed certificates to the winners essay and drawing competitions to the school students. Later, she inspected the handloom weavers stalls set up various societies. Mayor Y Sunil Rao, AD (handlooms) Charan, Additional Municipal Commissioner Suvartha, DWO Saraswathi, BC welfare officer Anil and others were also present.
