HYDERABAD, NOVEMBER 22, 2024: The Audit Diwas 2024 is the fourth in a series of celebrations that commemorate the history and heritage of the Supreme Audit Institution of India. Telangana state Governor Jishnu Dev Varma attended the closing ceremony of Audit Week 2024, which took place at the AG’s offices in Hyderabad on Friday (November 22, 2024).
Ms. Chanda Pandit, Principal Accountant General (Accounts & Entitlements), delivered the welcome address. She expressed her gratitude to the Governor for attending the event. She highlighted the crucial role and functions of the six field offices of the Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG) in Hyderabad. Ms. Pandit also emphasized that, in line with the growing use of artificial intelligence in governance, the C&AG is leveraging emerging technological trends to enhance its audit and accounting processes.
Additionally, she highlighted the international role of the C&AG, which recently assumed the presidency of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) and serves as an external auditor for organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Labour Organization (ILO), and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), among others.
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma acknowledged the significance of auditing, citing Kautilya’s Arthashastra from the 4th century BCE. He pointed out that Kautilya recommended establishing separate offices for the Treasurer and the Comptroller-Auditor to enhance accountability and minimize conflicts of interest. The Governor noted that audits are vital for efficient resource allocation and economic development.
During the ceremony, the Governor presented awards to meritorious Senior Audit Officers and Senior Accounts Officers. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by D Rajashekar, Senior Deputy Accountant General.
